Qca:  Measuring point for compressor acceptance test. Amount of condensate collected in the aftercooler.

Qci:  Measuring point for compressor acceptance test. Amount of condensate collected in the intercooler.

Qcr:  Measuring point for compressor acceptance test. Amount of condensate collected in the air receiver.
QETE:  Quality Engineering Test Establishment.

QLFT:  See Qualitative Fit Test.

QNFT:  See Quantitative Fit Test.

Qualified Person:  A person who, because of his knowledge, training and experience, is qualified to perform a specified duty safely and properly.

Qualification/Proof of Design Test:  A periodic test made on a product or equipment item when it is proposed as a candidate to meet certain service requirements, which will verify to the user or owner that the item can meet his requirements (see production test).

Qualitative:  Descriptive of kind, type or direction, as opposed to size, magnitude or degree.

Qualitative Fit Test (QLFT):  A pass/fail test method that relies on the subject’s sensory response to a challenge agent in order to assess the adequacy of respirator fit; refer to CSA Z94.4 for the definition.

Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
: A system of procedures, checks, audits, and corrective actions to ensure that all research design and performance, environmental monitoring and sampling, and other technical and reporting activities achieve the program’s desired data quality objectives (DQOs).

Quality Factor:
Factor by which the absorbed dose (rad) is multiplied to obtain a quantity that expresses (on a common scale for all ionizing radiation) the biological damage to exposed persons, usually used because some types of radiation, such as alpha particles, are biologically more damaging than others. Quality factors for alpha, beta, and gamma radiation are in the ratio 20:1:1.

Quality of the Water:  Refers to chemical, physical, biological, bacteriological, radiological, and other properties and characteristics of water that affect its use.

Quantitative:  Descriptive of size, magnitude or degree.

Quantitative Fit Test (QNFT):  A test method that uses an instrument to assess the amount of leakage into a respirator in order to assess the adequacy of respirator fit; the instrument is usually a particle counting instrument such as a PortaCount; refer to CSA Z94.4 for the definition.

Quarantine:  The action of removing equipment from service, and disallowing its use; especially used in reference to compressors and compressed breathing air purification units.

Quarry Tile: A man-made or machine-made clay tile used to finish a floor or wall. Generally 6”X6”X1/4” thick .

Quarter-mask:  A type of respirator inlet covering that covers the user’s nose and mouth above the chin; see inlet covering.

Another term for edge grain.

Quaternary:
Geologic era encompassing the last 2–3 million years.

Quick Cord Release:
On vacuum cleaners that do not have cord rewinders, the power cord is generally wrapped around cord holders that come in a variety of design configurations. A Quick Cord Release is a design that releases all the wrapped cord with a single adjustment so the user does not have to unwrap each turn of cord from the holders. This is a convenient and time saving feature. Sometimes referred to as a “Cord Release.”

Quick Coupler:
A coupling device which consists of a spring loaded shutoff valve and a positive locking mechanism. It is used to connect tools, hoses and other accessories. Also known as Quick Disconnect.

Quick-Setting Cement:
An asphalt-based cement used to adhere tabs of strip shingles to the course below. Also used to adhere roll roofing laps applied by the concealed nail method.

QuieTech:
QuieTech™ is a noise reduction system that provides comfortable heat while generating very little noise in the process.

Quiscent:  State of rest of a body. In entrainment separation, the body would be a liquid. Also used to describe a sump containing evacuated liquids or solids.
