Your Essential Guide to Air Filters: Answering Common Questions.

What are the different kinds of air filters currently in use?

Air filters come in a variety of sizes and types. The primary distinction between one filter and another is the size of the filter (length, width and thickness) and the filter material or “media” that is used in the manufacture of the filter. Nordic Pure features all of the popular sizes of air filters.

What are the different kinds of air filters currently in use?

Reusable Air Filters

Buyers opt for non-standard media filters when HVAC systems can’t accommodate standard sizes. Commonly, fiberglass is used, but its handling is tricky and ineffective. DIY filters lack frames, often collapsing and requiring professional help.

Nordic Pure discourages such filters, offering custom high-quality filters at competitive prices, featuring superior materials, all MERV options, and sturdy frames to prevent collapses.

Make-Your-Own Air Filters

Make-Your-Own Air Filters cater to HVAC systems without standard sizes. Commonly using fragile fiberglass, these filters lack frames and collapse easily. Nordic Pure discourages their use.

Nordic Pure offers high-quality custom filters at competitive prices, featuring superior materials, all MERV options, sturdy frames, and no collapse issues, providing backed by manufacturing expertise.

Disposable Panel Air Filters

Disposable Panel Air Filters are widely used in HVAC systems, furnaces, and air conditioning. They are easily replaceable, addressing issues with handling dirty filters.

These filters come in various media types, contained within a sturdy frame of cardboard, plastic, or metal, maintaining structural integrity during HVAC operation.

Fiberglass Air Filters

Fiberglass Air Filters use economical fiberglass as filtration media, mainly capturing larger airborne particles. Yet, their fragility can lead to breakage and release of harmful fibers, risking health issues.

Nordic Pure cautions against these filters due to insufficient filtration for smaller particles and associated health hazards.

Pleated Air Filters

Pleated Air Filters, similar to Disposable Panel Air Filters, use a rigid panel to house filter media, but differ in material and mounting. Pleated filters employ fabric-like media, effective against smaller particles.

Pleating enhances surface area for over double the filtration capacity of non-pleated counterparts, resulting in superior particulate removal and heightened filtration quality.

Electrostatic Pleated Air Filters

Nordic Pure’s Electrostatic Pleated Air Filters, an advanced version of pleated filters, feature superior media material, pleats for expanded surface area, and electrostatic charge. This charge acts like a magnet, enhancing particle attraction for efficient filtration.

Additionally, it resists bacterial growth, a common issue with other filters. Nordic Pure exclusively produces and offers these filters in various sizes.

How do I know what size air filter I need?

Air conditioner furnace filters are sized in width x length x thickness (in inches), with actual measurements slightly smaller than listed size. For instance, a 20x25x1 filter is actually 19.5×24.5×0.75 inches. Nominal and actual sizes are typically labeled, but measuring is necessary if not indicated.

Variations of up to 1/8 inch can occur due to manufacturing. For larger 4” and 5” filters, HVAC units might differ slightly from the stated size (e.g., 20x25x5). Precise measurement is advised for accurate ordering.
